RIP Joop

Sadly, Joop took a turn for the worse on Friday and by Saturday morning it was clear that the only humane thing left to do for him was to let him go. The head tilt had become abruptly much worse and he kept falling over.

He was just 4 and a half years old.

I am now wondering what I should do for Ash: I feel it would be wrong to adopt a companion for her, as she is probably infectious. Also given how scarily thin she still is, I'm really not sure how much longer she will be with us. She is eating well however, and can get about comfortably: I just hope she's not going to be too lonely.

I'm sorry to read about Joop. He seemed to bear his illness with fortitude and a rebellious spirit. I liked the story of the two rabbits fleeing into the burrow which they'd previously neglected - I imagined them staring out at you mutinously. I hope that Ash keeps going as long as she is able.

Very sorry to hear about Joop - I've been bad about commenting but I have been following their progress and as Lanciatore says, you did a lot to get the best possible advice and care for him. Hoping for the best for Ash.

Sorry to hear this, it's so sad when you have to make decisions like that :-( I hope Amber isn't missing him too much, though I'm sure she will adjust. My guinea pig did when she was left on her own, she did like to spend more time with us when we were outside than when she had a piggie companion.
