Winter is coming

I just popped out to grab a fig off the fig tree, and for the first time in weeks and weeks there are no ripe figs at all!

For August, the weather seems oddly Octoberish.

Ours seems oddly rainy-Julyish. Feels like one is trying to swim in soup.

Ooh, I think I prefer October! Wet July weather is not my favorite, at least we have sun even if it's a tad chilly.

I have the heating on...

I don't like hot weather, and I do love Autumn, but the end of Summer is still kind of sad (especially, I imagine, if you have a fig tree).

On a second inspection, there was one ripe fig hiding behind a leaf - so perhaps summer is not quite gone from here yet, but I think probably it will be by Monday.

Still Autumn is good, and so much less busy with tourists!

The BBC weather forecaster, at lunchtime, laughing up his sleeve:

"...and if you're camping over the weekend, be aware that temperatures may reach as low as 2 degrees C in rural areas..."

We do seemed to have skipped a month or two somewhere.

2 degrees?! In August? Brrrr!

I do rather like cooler weather, particularly when it's still sunny, but the year seems to be hurrying rather too fast. I just hope we aren't going to have three Februaries to make up for the rush.

You are the second person I have seen make that comment.

The first was in Orkney.

I'm guessing you mean 'Winter is coming' rather than about the figs? Surely Orkney must be too chill and rugged for figs?

There is one fig tree in Orkney that I know of; in the conservatory of the hotel we used to frequent.
