Mother of Ivy

Here is a thing I drew based on a hawthorn tree I know.
MotherOfIvy
I tried giving her some colour with pastels.  Not sure if it worked or not.

Oh wow, that is amazing. I was so impressed by the hundreds of fiddly branches and how the outlined ones mix in with the filled ones (really like that effect) that it took me a very long time to notice the baby on her back. It's lovely but also slightly creepy, though that may just be because I've seen The Wicker Man a few too many times.

Slightly creepy is definitely what I was going for: I'm glad it got that over. Because, having an ivy-baby is not good for a tree. The ivy-baby is overwhelming her as she struggles along, something like that...

I must admit the first thing I noticed was the baby, and it took me longer to pick up all the details of the mother tree - but this is a wonderful drawing, so obviously both a person and a tree.

Love it.

Oh, I love this - all the twiggy, twiny, leafy details, and the overall feel of the piece. It looks like an illustration of one of those fairytale-ish fantasy stories, perhaps something from the turn of the previous century.
