Elwing painting

"For Ulmo bore up Elwing out of the waves, and he gave her the likeness of a great white bird, and upon her breast there shone as a star the Silmaril, as she flew over the water to seek Eärendil her beloved."

I went to a local art event - Drawn to the Valley, which is a thing where lots of local artists open up their studios and there's a trail to go and visit them - yesterday. The art was of course of varying quality and style, but some of it was excellent (I'm kind of glad that some of it was also terrible.)  It made me think I should finish this painting I started a while ago.

Thank you!

Practice is improving? I hope!

Please do. The water looks both dramatic and properly watery, which impresses me no end.

I'm thinking a couple more waves at least and maybe a bit more contrast on the gem about her neck...

Water is so hard to paint isn't it? I'm pleased by how this is coming together.

It looks finished to me. Is it? If not, what were you planning to do to finish it? It seems to really capture the transformation.

Now I've stared at it for a bit, I'm wondering about a few more waves and maybe doing something to emphasize the Silmaril(s) a bit more about her neck. And maybe more shading on her lower body.

But there is of course a significant chance of Ballsing Things Up By Not Knowing Where To Stop. :-D

I actually like this one. I think it is better than many of your previous works that I saw (I am the least artsy person possible though).

Yes, the barrier to entry to become "art" is very low to inexistent currently it seems. I think that there indeed is a lot of terrible, pretentious, derivative, poor technique "art" around these days. Not sure if it has always been like this and our days are not an exception.

I like it a lot and I am, like others above, totally impressed by the water.
