WUMPUS!

It came back to me. It was Wumpus who ate strorbris and rarsbris. At least I'm fairly sure it was.

Though the only trace I can find of the original book online is this: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/t/elleston-trevor/wumpus.htm

IE, not much.

Hm, my mother sometimes calls the Nasty Noodle (see icon) "Wumpus". I must ask if it's an independent formation or whether she had those books as a child. She's the right age, but possibly the wrong country.

I wasn't aware that 'wumpus' was a literary reference. It's probably more famous among computer gamers of a certain age for 'Hunt the Wumpus', an early (i.e. early 1970s) computer game.
