I will not leave the mowing and weeding of the upper garden so long next time. It's a jungle up there - nettles, brambles, monstrous cowparsleys...

I strimmed a lot yesterday, but it still needs a lot of work. I am not sure that the raspberry beds are saveable. :-( It's far too hot to strim more today but I must get on with it this week if the temperature drops at all.

Now I feel guilty too, I've been putting off seeing to our back garden for ages. I was really good in the winter when it only took about 1/2 an hour every few weeks, but now everything seems to grow like triffids. I wouldn't mind, but none of it produces anything to eat and it doesn't look particulary nice either and they are the 2 main criteria plants will have to fulfil to get into my new garden.

Hmmm, intriguing idea. But it's enforcing the border controls that causes me the problems: I make these rules, then the illegal immigrants come romping in and swamp me!

It's hard to tell in our current garden which plants were there originally and which are the immigrants. I suspect that will become more of a problem when we start on our new garden as we will know exactly what should be where.

I'm tempted by one of those devices that burns the weeds, but am slightly worried I might not set fire to my feet by accident.

I've never used one, but people who have tell me that they aren't a lot of good because most weeds just bounce back from the roots. :-(

Mulching is great, but you do have to keep doing it otherwise the invaders come creeping back into it.
