Rightbrain V Leftbrain

For those still unsure, which way is the dancer going?

She went anticlockwise for me for a bit, then clockwise. I can make her go either way...

She went anti-clockwise, I tried one eye then the other, back to both always still a/c. I looked away and suddenly when I look back she's going clockwise huh?

Are you sure it's not just on a timer?

sceptic! No, I don't think so because I've got her doing it on command!

[identity profile] kargicq.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I can also make her switch on demand. Not sure what this says about us...

Are but aren't you known to be bossy a determined woman?

I thought that was a comment to [livejournal.com profile] kargicq at first!

Started a/c, tried all sorts of things and eventually got her going clockwise by looking only at the pointed foot as it went past for a bit. Then had no end of trouble switching her back a/c again...

[identity profile] chris-maslen.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
When I first looked she was going c/w, then when I looked at the article and back again she was going a/c.

I couldn't make her go back c/w again though.

Interesting. I came out slightly left brain on all those tests last week, but I can only see her as going clockwise, and try as I might, I can't make her change and go the other way.

[identity profile] rustica.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, anti-clockwise all the way!

[identity profile] the-marquis.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
coming back to it now and she started c/w then juddered and went a/c, then I looked away breifly and now she's c/w again ...

Here's how I get her to switch. Just concentrate one the foot that stays on the floor and convince yourself it's going one way or the other (easy, since it's a small circle) and the rest of the figure then follows.

[identity profile] helflaed.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh? She's just going clockwise!

I can't make her change either.

Mr Brain is tired tonight.

She is stuck on clockwise! Think there must be something wrong with the interpretation bit though. - Spatial perception??? Have you seen me try to park???

Clockwise. With great effort after reading that others could make her switch, I got her going anticlockwise, with great difficulty. Then I easily switched back to clockwise and could not get her to go the other way again. Except that today I've visited the site twice and both times she started anticlockwise, until again I switched her back to clockwise and couldn't reverse that again. I guess it's consistent with some other meme I did, where I turned out as right-brain dominant, but only just.

[identity profile] ladyofastolat.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
After looking at it on and off for several hours, seeing her as clockwise all the time, she suddenly switched. I then couldn't get her back to being clockwise at all... until she suddenly switched without warning again, then stuck on clockwise. I can't do it at will, though.

[identity profile] philmophlegm.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Weird. She's definitely clockwise for me.

And at the risk of pointing out the emperor's new clothes, am I the only one that thinks she's NAKED???

am I the only one that thinks she's NAKED???

Nope, that was my first thought & I hadn't read your comment at that point. Not sure what that says about us ;-)

Anyway back to the point of the test, I can get her to go both ways at will.

[identity profile] philmophlegm.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Bunn reckoned that this showed that my thoughts were controlled by neither hemisphere of the brain, but by a different organ entirely.

"...I can get her to go both ways at will."

Oo-er...

That poses some interesting questions about my anatomy then ;-)

She went clockwise for me. After some coaching from Polly I can get her to go anticlockwise.

If you look at the shadow as well as the dancer, then I think the test has a real solution, which is that she's going anticlockwise and not clockwise. When she is going anticlockwise, her ourstretched leg is behind her at the point you can see its shadow, which seems right to me as the light source is behind her.

But I could be wrong. Anyway my brain has now gone funny. Time for bed!

[identity profile] king-pellinor.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point on the shadow.

I can sometimes get her to switch after half a revolution, so she oscillates back and forth with her leg in front of her. I can't do it consistently, though.

[identity profile] king-pellinor.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I think one problem with getting her to switch is that you need to change which leg is up and which is down.
