I and the hounds went out to Minions (village next to the Hurlers on Bodmin moor) today, there to meet with Clazook, an internet friend of mine who was staying in the village, and her wobbly old dogs - Sis the Oldies sponsor dog, Guinness and Sky the saluki.   By a strange coincidence it turned out that the old friends she was staying with were actually people I'd met before as their dogs started training class at the same time as Duke.

They have a gorgeous but slightly reactive red collie called JD and an absolutely adorable puppy called Lola.   I was so pleased with Duke : he was good with all of the dogs, from 18 year old Sis to 16 week old pup Lola (already in her second  home - the first was a high rise flat.  A border collie puppy in a high rise, no wonder that didn't work out!).   Batty old labrador cross Guinness seemed particularly enamoured of Duke and kept sitting next to him and grinning!  His reaction gives me greater confidence that Duke will integrate easily with his new owners dogs when they arrive from Canada next year.

The autumn light over the moors was fabulous today, one of those wonderful golden late autumn days under a blue sky.

That sounds very promising. Has he levelled up and become officially a Silk Purse - or, at least, a rather attractive linen one?

The name Minions never ceases to amuse me and always makes me want to write sad little stories about Dark Lords who turn up expecting to find servile hordes, but merely find a tea shop.

I don't think he's quite in Silk Purse territory, but he's probably got up to stylish-yet-affordable nylon wallet...

He blotted his record this evening though - Molls and Az are stressing out in a big way because of the fireworks, so when I gave them all tripe, Molls didn't eat hers. Duke tried to take it off her, and there was a bit of a barney which ended with Duke fleeing upstairs and Mollydog with a small tooth-cut over one eye. I don't think he'd have tried it if she wasn't showing signs of being worried anyway, and in any case, he lost. But no real harm done.

The thought of a 16 week old collie pup is making me feel broody!

Is the new home a cert then?

She was absolutely adorable. Sad to have ended up in rescue already at that age though!

Yes, new home is all organised, he'll be off there on Monday.

Fingers and everything else crossed that all goes well for Duke, even though I'll miss the sow's ear/silk purse updates...

I'm glad you've enjoyed them ... I have a horrible feeling that more sows ears may be along in a while though!

(philmophlegm may moan and groan, but I'm just a sucker for a sad doggy face!)
