Brythen

Someone out searching for Brythen found his body this morning.  He was in a field we had searched but in the middle where the long grass hid him.  I think he must have jumped into the field after a deer and had a heart attack almost immediately.

At least I know.   I've been out searching basically since Sunday and so have huge numbers of other people who all turned out to help.  People came from all around and drove up from Plymouth to help search and his poster was shared all over the country in case someone had stolen him.  I just wish, I wish they had found him alive.

I'm trying to tell myself that it is better to know, and better to go quickly.  I should have done better keeping him safe.

I'm so sorry to hear he's passed away. I think the number of people who turned out to help you search for him is a tribute both to the lovely dog he was and to how much you loved him. And it sounds as though he died doing something he found exciting. You couldn't have taken better care of him.

It's better to know than go on in agonised searching, but I'm still getting shocked moments when I realise he's gone. It seems so unlikely.

I know that I'm late seeing this, but I still wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about Brythen's passing. He seemed like an exceedingly good dog, from the way you have described him.

We're thinking about adopting a greyhound as our next pet dog. In theory, we'll always have my service dog and a pet/emotional support animal for my fiance. We don't have great places for a greyhound to run, but I understand that most of the time they are quite happy being couch potatoes.

Thank you. It's always too soon, I suppose, but this was such a difficult shock.

They are lovely dogs and do like to sleep a lot.

I can imagine. When I was very young, we lost a dog to getting hit by a pickup. He was a fairly young dog, about 4 years old, and just all the sudden in the middle of the night, he was gone. I don't actually remember the dog himself very well, but I remember the grief of his death.

My fiance mostly needs an affectionate cuddle-bug, and I've heard and seen that greyhounds tend to be that with 'their' human. A dog that makes him get up and play is also good. His current ESA is a boxer-mix, and her silliness brings him a lot of joy. I think she'd be welded to his leg if he let her, because unless she is eating, evacuating, or in pain, she wants attention.

I am terribly sorry I missed this post. (LJ did not send me a notification. I just got the last you made and backed-up to see if I had missed any news.) Please accept my condolences. Like everyone else, I was looking for good news. He was a wonderful companion and you gave him a wonderful home. Some day you will be able to look back on the good times you shared. It much be so difficult now.

Thanks. It is easier to know, at least, that he's not wandering hurt or hungry. :-(

Apologies for missing this post. I'm so very sorry. He died doing something he loved and you gave him a wonderful life. I'm not a dog person, but I grew fond of Bythen through your posts. No one can keep a dog(or a person) safe from a heart attack, so don't blame yourself.

Thanks. Adjusting to it a bit more, but he was a big part of our lives.
