Of course only half of our cats are in this photo, so this rather simplifies the situation. My best analysis of the current hierarchy is as follows:

Perl

Sumatra

Yamamayaa

Henning

Kjetil

Footnote

Despite the arrival of two fierce Bengal cats, Perl is still definitely top cat. There were some tussles in the early days, but after a few incidents in which Perl has essentially whupped Sumatra's ass, they now know not to challenge her.

The Bengals may be descended from a wild creature of the jungle, but Perl's from Croxteth. They kill children there...

Mechtilde thinks she should be top cat because she is a stroppy little queen. Magnus is older, bigger(just) and spent more than a year living as a neutered tom in a house full of breeding queens (aka psycho bitches from hell). Oh boy. He can look after himself!

:-) I like that photo, I can't wait to meet Yama and Suma next month!

I'm not sure if ours have quite worked out who's top yet. Flossie definitely thinks she is higher in the hierarchy than us, but she seems to defer to Lindy in most of their scuffles, though I'm sure deep inside she still thinks she's top. Lindy in contrast seems to think she's higher than Flossie, but definitely sees herself as lower than us. I think the battle for top cat will run for some time as they're so similar in age and size.

I think Kjetil is scared of Yama because he looks like Suma, but I'm not entirely convinced that Yama thinks he is above Kjetil. I would say that they are both middlerankers. Kjetil does't back down from Yama, he tends to jump up onto a high shelf and go round him (and he can jump much better than either Bengal)

I think Henning would like to think of himself as on a level with Suma (and he does play with Suma sometimes...) but in any argument between Suma and Henning, my money would be heavily on Suma. Actually, in any argument with Suma where the other cat wasn't a tough Liverpool tortie, I'd back Suma!

I am really not sure where our cats think we fit in. I think their views of us probably vary quite a bit. We had to make quite an effort making a point about us being in charge with the Bengals - otherwise they'd have nicked all our food and we'd have starved to death!
