2007 tree carving

Sometimes I make a plan and try to carve something specific, but this time I just started carving and let it go in the direction it seemed to want to go. Strangely, the direction it wanted to go was this:



Although I had planned to carve it green so the wood would be softer, I failed to get round to it in time: the wood was well seasoned by the time I came to cut it, and very tough. But fortunately, Noble Fir does seem to season quite nicely, and once I'd managed to hack off a piece roughly the right size with the saw, it wasn't too hard to work, and gave quite a fine finish for a softwood.
