All our efforts to help Max came to nothing: his separation anxiety got worse, and he started biting people who were leaving the house - all part of the same thing, he was just trying to stop them leaving him alone, but he was a big strong dog, his current fosterer couldn't cope and we couldn't responsibly move him on - even if we'd had a home prepared to take him, which we didn't. We had to have him put to sleep.

No matter how well one knows that you can't possibly save them all, the harder you try for a particular dog, the more like being kicked in the stomach it is, when you come up against reality.

I hope Max is with his beloved owner again now.
