According to QI just now, the nostril you breathe through affects how your brain works.   A couple of years ago, I filled in a bunch of quizzes that all told me I was rightbrainified and this mystified me a bit.

Finally, I have an explanation!  I have a small nasal polyp (Fred the Polyp) living in my left nostril, where he obstructs the breeze.  Clearly the quizzes have detected that the right hand side of my head is better ventilated!

I will have to start noticing which nostril is clear and which is bunged up at times when I feel especially creative or lethargic. It would be useful to know when it would be a good time to work on the work-in-progress and when it would just result in staring at a screen while my brain dribbles out of my ears, based on which side I can breathe through.

Well, this information only came from QI. Chances are there's more to it (or it could just be wrong).

I believe that most people's left nostril is roomier than the right nostril - at least, from the point of view of inserting a nasopharygeal airway.

I'll remember that if I ever need to invent an item to be stored in a nostril. :-D
