Weather has been so fabulous this week that I took a couple of hours off and headed to Rix Hill on the edge of Dartmoor for a walk.

We found a car in the woods.  It had been there some time.

I heard two woodpeckers while we were walking through this wood, but didn't manage to see any birds, let alone photograph them!

I liked the way these trees leaned over to make a sort of corridor
The ponies were out and about looking very shaggy and gormless.  I wondered if this one was part guineapig, it certainly didn't look 100% horse.   Mossyfaced object.

I finally found a bird and managed to photograph it very nearly in focus! It seemed unimpressed with me, and left. Is it a raven or a crow?

Az found something horrible and decided he would smell better wearing it.
It was so hot that even though I walked them down to the stream, Mollydog really wanted a drink by the time we got back to the car.   Her banana-nose makes me laugh in this pic.

Fabulous photos! The RAC appear to have been somewhat tardy in their response in that first shot, though.

And it's wonderful to see Az in mid-roll - I'm always too busy screaming at Pip to photograph him when he's applying fox-perfume.

I was heading for the stream anyway so I knew I could scrub him off.

Plus one excellent thing about my two is that they are nonstick dogs, so no matter how much Az rolls, he always had a hard time getting anything to adhere unless it is very runny.

Mollydog never rolls in anything. Nor does she become muddy. It's like a superpower!

Great photos; love the pony especially and Az enjoying himself!

It's almost too hot. I'm telling myself it's too early to start worrying that we're heading for another drought.

I can't believe how dry it is at the mo, even here. Normally we have so much mist and fog that everything that isn't covered in grass is covered in moss or ferns, but the moss is already dry, and the grass is not growing as fast as you'd expect. Not that I'm complaining personally, as I have to mow the damn stuff, but up on Dartmoor the grazing is looking awful bare, I don't know what those ponies are eating!
