I am resisting the impulse to Kindle George RR Martin's Dance with Dragons at present, but if people continue this frenzied level of excitement over it then I may be forced to do so.

I note that Amazon UK seems to be taking its time sending out the print copies, and wonder if this is a marketing initiative for Kindle...

If I do Kindle it, then it will be the third book that I've found that I actually want to read that is available on Kindle, since I was given the thing several months ago.  I am still hoping that I will warm to it more, but at the moment, an awful lot of the things that cause me to go BOOK!!!! WANT WANT WANT! like a sort of pathetic book-Gollum, simply aren't available in that medium.

Also, I find I kind of like being able to flip through actual pages. But perhaps my Kindle flipping skills will improve with use.

I'm half-thinking of Kindling it myself, as our copy seems to be mysteriously unavailable at the moment.

By a strange coincidence, [livejournal.com profile] adaese might also be offline for a few days.

I do like the optimism shown in adding the paperback of A Dance with Dragons to your wishlist in 2007. :-)

I wondered if Amazon.uk was just being ultra cautious after the debacle of Amazon.de, which despatched far too early and faced the Wrath of Publisher. Or maybe their workers have been dropping like flies as they struggle with the weight of the tome.

Back in 2007, I think I naively thought that I might have forgotten about it by the time it finally came out, so put it on list as a reminder.

Fat chance! :-D

I'm wondering if you'll be able to resist the temptation to open the parcel that should arrive tomorrow addressed to Mr P. Phlegm knowing full well that I won't be home until Thursday...

(I can't talk really. I had vowed to wait until the paperback on the basis that the hardback will be enormously heavy and I have plenty of books to read anyway. Then I went and watched GoT, listened to ACoK and ASoS and re-read AFFC and now I can't wait.)

I got a dispatch notice for my copy today. Chewing my fingers off in anticipation over here.

I don't much care for reading actual books on my kindle either. I use it for academic papers and fanfic and I like it for that, but things that actually come in book form, I still buy as books.

The hardback is enormously heavy. I'm not convinced that the paperback will be a featherweight, either.

This *should* be an argument for Kindling it, yet, yet, yet...

I was tempted by a couple Rosemary Sutcliffs that were 99p each in Kindly form and only required me to press a button. But they are thin. Still not sure about cramming Dance into the gadget...
