1) Apparently in our house the answer to the eternal question: 'there's a rat in the kitchen what amma gonna do?' is 'catch it using the two-wellie-boot technique, escort it, enbooted, up the lane through the stygian darkness until the torch begins to  die, then turf it out'.  The Deliverer of Rats was Yama Bungle.  I hope he's not going to make it a habit.

2) I made some crabapple and  mint jelly, but it wouldnt' set for ages.  when it finally did it was very caramelly and not very suitable for use as a mint jelly.   I think I used too much vinegar and water and didn't boil it fast enough.   There are still loads of  crabs about, so I may try again.

3) We were given some gooseberries, but they were really too sharp to make good crumble, so I made them into jam.  Now I have 4.5 jars of jam that could double as paint stripper.  I think it will be OK if spread fairly thin on toast...

4) I intended to make some chutney this weekend, but didn't get round to it in the end.  This is probably no bad thing given the level of Preserve Fail already achieved.

5) It was Mollydog's twelfth birthday on Friday. Everydog had Birthday Bones to celebrate. She celebrated by haring about like a mad loon, but it was pouring with rain so I did not manage to photograph her.  Here she is today instead, practicing her levitating.

6) Although I am still very in love with my ancient manual focus lenses, I put the autofocus lens back on the Nex3, and experimented with using different types of autofocus now that I am generally more used to the camera.  The spot focus mode seems to deliver the best results for the kind of photos I want to take.  Here is Flash Whuppet running like a little deer:

They are beautiful : I always feel they look like they belong to the Northumbrian renaissance : all long legs and necks.

I'm crossing everything that she will manage one or two more...

I love the dog pictures! Molly seems quite spry for an older gal. Or maybe I spend too much time with basset hounds. *g*

Molls is doing really well for a retired racer, I'm really pleased. She does sleep a lot but she's still born to run. Flash is 11 so he's not doing badly either. But then he's a whippet and so a lot smaller.

Basset hounds? Basset hounds are hilarious!

I used to desperately want a trio of whippets when I was younger. But I ended up with a basset-lab mix who could not levitate if his floppy little life depended on it. *g*

I like how Philmophlegm says that there are two possible candidates for Deliverer of Rat, weighs the evidence, and comes to a conclusion that he considers almost certain, but not proved beyond all reasonable doubt. You, on the other hand, point the finger of certainty, slam the prison door, and turn the key. :-D

Bringing a rat inside to play with it is very Yama thing to do. Kjetil is a good hunter, but I don't tend to find him carrying live prey: he kills them fast, brings them into the utility room and eats their brains. Kjetil likes brains.

Yama is much more the 'it's cold and wet out here, I'll take it to play with in the living room' type. :-/

Also, it was (thankfully!) a small rat. When Kjetil catches rats they usually have more meat on them.

Well that, and you are basically Yama's henchman. I bet he told you to say that.

Beautiful running dog pics! I have yet to take a decent action shot with my camera and I've had it eleven months. Must sit down and work out manual over-rides, soon, before the local beach is open to dogs again for the winter...

Gooseberry paintstripper. *Shudders* I have yet to find a way to make gooseberries edible.

Normally I quite like gooseberries, but these are something else. You can feel your teeth dissolving!

Aperture priority is your friend!

Wow! Great photos! And how can you have a rat in a house with so many woofs??

We had a rat because a CERTAIN cat decided that it would be more fun to bring his rat into the kitchen to play with in the warm and dry.

Certain cat has been remonstrated with, but I suspect is unrepentant. If he must catch things, then I suppose catching rats is a sort of public service, but if he must catch them, I'd rather not know the details!
