This is Yogi.  Her owners' children and grandchildren have moved in with her elderly owners, and she doesn't like the noisy baby and toddler, and expresses this by growling and snapping if approached by them.  She was supposed to be put to sleep today, but they called Oldies as a last try to find another option, so she's coming here instead.   She hasn't lived with cats before, so this could be a bit hair raising...

That coat is a bit alarming - looks very tangled.  I think I'll be booking her in to be groomed pronto...

In case you are wondering about the spaghetti hoops, the idea is that it gives an indication of the size of the dog, and also, people tend not to have photos of their dogs with random tins of stuff, so asking for a photo with a tin means the photo is likely to be a new one (some people send photos that are years old, so it's a bit of a surprise when the dog comes in looking much older and in a bit of a state).

That is such a clever idea with the tins, I am keeping that in mind if I ever get back into fostering.

She looks like she'll be a very pretty dog when her coat's worked on--I hope everything goes smoothly with the cats!

Yes, the tin idea is inspired! -N

Well, it would have been, if not thwarted by the owner finding a very small tin of spaghetti hoops, which none the less *looks* very much like a proper standard sized tin.
I was expecting this great big afghan sized dog, and she's only about the same size as Az! Image

That is so funny. It totally looks like a normal-sized tin; I too assumed she was enormous. I assume it's a bit of a relief to find she's not! -N.

I'm glad she's not being put to sleep, that would have been a great shame.
I hope she's more amenable to the groomer than to the toddler!

Groomers usually have much better manners than toddlers!

True, and not as noisy. On the other hand, she does seem to have a great fear of scissors :-/

I have her booked in for Weds, and have warned them to expect mats. In the meanwhile, she is discarding tangled dreadlocks all over the floor.

I like the way you often talk about your foster dogs "landing." I'm imagining a whole layer of the atmosphere full of potential foster dogs - the dogosphere, perhaps? - from which dogs every now and then detach themselves, and float gently to earth (accompanied by their trusty spaghetti hoops.)

Hope all goes well. The thought that a Bungle might be seen as Less Scary Than A Toddler is a somewhat surprising one. :-)

YES. That is exactly what it is like! All these dogs floating round and round. People with virtual big paddles gesturing them in to land at at other rescues, foster homes, occasionally direct to permenant homes... and occasionally one lands here!

The dogosphere is a terrifyingly crowded space and most of the dogs have a limited amount of fuel, so always a feeling of triumph when one is brought in safely to land!

There's a lurcher under that coat? She looks like she'll be a lovely dog with a wee bit of attention.

I hope all goes well.

I think there is one in there somewhere, although it's very hard to tell how much is lurcher and how much collie at this stage!

Poor thing, pets of elderly people can get such a raw deal - back when I was fostering cats, I briefly had charge of an elderly ginger tom cat whose owner had died. Not only did he have to put up with losing his person and his home, but the Cat's Protection had neutered him despite his age, because it's their policy. He was not a happy camper.

I hope Yogi settles well and quickly adapts to sharing her space with cats.

Oh dear, poor cat. I do think it's much harder on cats, they are not lovers of change at the best of times.

Yogi seems to be coping reasonably well so far, seems quite relaxed and has walked past the cats several times without barking now. I think she's a bit scared of them (and who can blame her!) so barks to make them go away.

Good idea about the tin. Such a shame she's been ousted from her family by kids moving in, I bet there's a lovely dog under that coat.

Coat does look worrying. The tin thing is genius.

Poor old Yogi. Sounds like she had a lucky escape.

In my opinion, I'd keep the dog and ditch the children/grandchildren...
