At the vegetable stall in the Square

I was really delighted to see a big pile of cabbages, with the stall holder flailing around them, trying to hold at bay a group of Cabbage White* butterflies, flutteringly intent on mischief. :-D
* yes, I know that in species terms they are either Large White, or Small White, and 'cabbage white' is incorrect. In behavioural terms for this particular group, however, I feel that 'cabbage white' was right on the money.

Date: 2013-08-03 08:00 pm (UTC)A few years ago I mentioned on Usenet that I'd always loved the rosebay willowherb plant, and how sad it was that this attractive wildflower was not available commercially.
I think it took about three weeks for a patch of RBWH to sprout after that, and I now have a huge purple mass of it up in the top garden. Apparently Rosebay Willowherb is like vampires, and has to be invited in...
I have been told that the hedge on the right side of the house is exactly right for dormouse territory, and therefore it is strange that I have yet to see any dormice in it... ;-)
