I decided to experiment with wire sculpture this week.

With actual dog, for scale.

Wire whippet-face.

It was surprisingly easy and quick to make a reasonably large form and stitch it together with wire, although a little hard on the fingers until I got the knack.   She was very light at first, so I made her feet out of river-pebbles.   The body is chicken wire, reinforced with some galvanised wire for better stability on the legs.

She is quite hard to photograph though.

That's fantastic! The head is especially good. I think sculpture is your medium.

(Did the wire hurt your hands?)

That's grand!

The actual dog seems about to offer a comment.

I have tough hands from woodcarving anyway... But not really that much, I used pliers for most of the pointy bits.

Actual dog is being very very good. I am filled with suspicion by this. What is he plotting?

She's very difficult to photograph, it's hard to get enough contrast to see the shape of her, she looks more impressive in real life.

Any thoughts on photographic techniques for wire...?

That's lovely! It's like a ghostly spectral hound that might disappear into mist with the first coming of dawn. Brythen looks less impressed, though. :-)

Brythen is concentrating hard on Being Very Good. It doesn't leave much room for Thinking About Art.

Thank you! Since she seemed well received, I decided to enter her in the Greyhound Gap Facebook Craft Fair / Auction - she has already got a bid of £30. I'm very pleased!

Two possible ideas - and these are just guesses - might be to put it in front of a strongly contrasting colour, and to use manual focus.
