Sale of 'real ' dog treats.

Did you know that you can bake a cake for human consumption, and sell it at your local county fair for charity - but that you cannot bake a bag of dog treats and sell it at the same event, unless you can provide a composition analysis of the contents (as well as an ingredient list and weight measured on an Official Scales)?

I could do weight and ingredients but it's ridiculous to pay out for a lab analysis of a few bags of sardine cake: it would wipe out the whole point of it!

I can feel myself becoming an Angry Old Woman by the minute today.

I'm surprised you can still bake stuff for humans and sell it if you don't have a kitchen that's been assessed by your local Environmental Health Officer. When I ran my business regulations seemed to get tighter and tighter all the time making it seem rather too much trouble to be worth it.

Would you have to get each new batch tested in case the composition changed?

Well according to a govt website I found you can, as long as it's small scale stuff for a one-off event, not a business making regular sales.

I think you are allowed to assume the analysis is the same for each batch of the same recipe, but I'm not 100% sure.
