This has to qualify as one of the most peeved-looking works of art featuring a half-naked lady *ever*.    One feels the painter has lured the lady into being painted, and she's now chilly, bored, and wishes she'd never seen a dratted cittern.

You are spot on.A silly picture as who would play music like that? At least most nudes are bathing or recling.

As someone who frequently gets out of the bath and then wanders off and starts doing something wearing only a towel, playing the cittern semi-naked is somewhat plausible to me. She's probably pulling that face because she put her clean clothes on the bathroom floor ready to change into and then tramped wet all over them.
