Am still kind of excited about the books, and finding out how things work out for Tyrion and Daenerys and Jaime (I like Jaime, even if his name is confusing) and Brienne and Stannis (Stannis is still my favorite!), and whether the whole thing is being secretly orchestrated by a Raven Superintelligence.  Much less excited about the TV series.

I think, for my taste, the whole thing has just gone on way too long, and with far to many long, long pauses during which people are tortured in horrific detail, in ways that do not, to my mind, enhance the plot. It's one thing if the person being tortured is central to the plot, but with Theon Greyjoy, for example, I find myself simultaneously horrified and bored rigid.  It's not a good combination.   I can skip the long, boring, overdetailed torture scenes in the book, but skipping them on the tv is harder.

(Oh wait, is Season 4 premiering today? Time flies...)

I find Theon's predicament interesting, but then I have possibly questionable taste.

Stannis is your favorite too? I thought I was the only one! =D

Theon reminds me of someone. I can't quite pin it down, but I'm fairly sure I used to work with him, and he was bloody annoying. :-D

Stannis is the best. Renly and Robert are frankly a bit caracature - specially Robert. But I can empathise with Stannis.

Yes, I can definitely empathize with Stannis (something about his being committed to principles and being overlooked in favor of people who are more "fun" methinks).

I actually really like Robert too, although he is somewhat over-the-top of course. He strikes me as Shakespearean, the way he had potential and just squandered it all and is now tragicomically committed to drinking himself to death...

I was bored to tears by all the Theon torture on the TV too. But then I also got bored by the books and still haven't read the last one. Although I won't go into any further details because I'm not sure where you've read up to.

I've read up to the last book published, so no worries about spoilers. I agree they have got painfully slower, but the overall premise still intrigues me enough to go on reading.

I'm working my way through book 2 at the moment. I like the stories and world building and am preferring the books to the tv series - far too gratuitous to my mind and sliding towards being misogynistic whereas the books are far more nuanced in their treatment of women. Though it is a bit odd as saw the series first so those characters are lodged in my head. Am usually grumpy because the actors aren't the way I'd imagined the characters...
