If Great Cthulhu devours the Houses of Parliament during, say the State Opening of Parliament, and removes at a stroke all Members of Parliament, all members of the House of Lords, the Privy Council, the Monarch and all the senior Royals...

Who is left in charge?

'Cthulhu seems like overkill'

Understatement of the week?

But you know, sometimes one doesn't want a plain bathmat. Sometimes you want a huge shagpile bath mat with the words BATH MAT written on it in huge bright orange letters. It's all taste.

Sorry; my tongue-in-cheekiness may not have been obvious unless you'd followed the link to the "small nuclear bomb" and the stuff about the Antichrist.

But you are talking about William, yes? And is this research for fiction? An rpg scenario, perhaps?

No, I'd never heard of William or The Cycle. I was envisaging a fairly large number of the Royal family being removed, not just a couple, maybe even to the point where you'd have to go back to Victoria to trace a succession, and nobody would know exactly who the new monarch was without looking it up. And at the same time removing a lot of the civil service and all the legislature.

Really, a nuclear bomb seems like it might be underkill, let none accuse me of a lack of slaughter :-D

And no, not an RPG. If I write it, it would be fanfic, probably, although a fairly obscure and peripheral kind cos that's what I do :-D.

You wouldn't have heard of it; it's unfinished and unpublished (other than the stuff on my user-space in wikipedia). But the stuff about Prince William's background is real enough, which is why I think he'd make a a great Arthur-Returns-To-Save-Britain-But-America-Thinks-He's-the-Antichrist figure.

Sorry to be a crazy stranger crashing your LJ like this—I blame Twitter. Love your Tolkien stuff; that was my first fandom. Must get around to reading the Histories and The Children of Húrin one day.

I like the idea! It's not my own idea, but I think I would be tempted to pick it up if it were a book.

Dunno about it as RPG, for my personal tastes, I have never RPd in a game with a modern setting so I don't know if that would appeal or not. Perhaps with RPGs a good GM can make most setting work...

I am not sure Cthulhu would appreciate being compared to a bathmat.
