Wandering through Gunnislake old Clitters mine this morning, I was taken by the windows in this roofless pumphouse. I believe this was last used just after the first world war, although I think it's been repaired a bit in the interim. The shaft next to it is supposed to be 505meters deep - although sadly, I can't drop a pebble in and listen hopefully for the splash, as there's a very sturdy grill over it. Probably just as well really.

That is a very cool photograph and might make an excellent ruin in Arnor. As for the shaft, would you hear a splash if you could drop something in if it is that deep?

Well, you can hear sort of... dripping noises. I guess the bottom of the shaft is submerged in water now it's not being pumped any more (I hope, though *not* in a shadow of fear, because it is not actually all that far from my house)

But the dripping noises might not be going all the way down, of course.

I am feeling curious now. I may need to see if I can find a long thin pebble to drop next time I am up there :-D

That photo! Love the juxtaposition of mad-made and natural innovations.
