I'm so glad the weather was nice for her.

She had had pneumonia, and I think she was just too old and tired to want to fight it.

Almost 9 years ago we adopted Amber from a small rescue, who told us that she had been found thrown away in a skip, still inside her hutch. She had to learn to drink water that wasn't in a bottle, and didn't understand about grazing grass until she saw another rabbit do it.

This morning she went out for the last time and sat in the sun for a little while and nibbled the grass. After a little while she fell over, and I took her back inside, where she dozed off and never woke up again.

A good life, and a good death. Goodbye Amber bunny, and sleep well.

Aww. That's such a sweet photo of her. I'm sorry to hear that you've lost another loved one so soon after Java, but Amber seems to have gone after some happy moments this morning.

(Still incredulous that she'd been chucked in a skip in her hutch, what arseholes! Mind you I gather she had a good life with you two.)

Thanks. Yes, Amber was the bunny equivelent of about 103 and I'm pretty sure she enjoyed most of her life. so although we are sorry to lose her it's about as good a way to go as I can imagine.

I'm glad that she didn't suffer. Indeed, what a lovely picture - and her life story is proof that it's possible to learn better things and have a happy life even after great suffering.

Yes, even for rabbits - they may be small and silly, but they definitely know how to enjoy the moment.

Thanks. I've marked her grave with an apple twig: in a year or two it will rot away and she'll be almost forgotten, which seems only right for a rabbit. Small lives...

In a way it was easier since Java has died so recently as well. I was sad for Java because she fought every step of the way: she was probably only about 14, she had had a failing liver for over a year - and I did wish there was more we could have done.

But with Amber, she was so old and tired it seemed wrong to be very sad for her.

Sorry to hear about Amber, glad she had a peaceful last few hours.

Would have posted earlier but no LJ access at home again and the network was down at work when I came in. So no access to anything until about 12pm :-(

Now I feel guilty! I had meant to email you to say thanks for the CD with the pics of Java and have no such good excuse for not having done so yet.

The one of her sitting on Bacchus made me laugh (because of both their expressions!)

That's ok, I've been so busy recently I'd forgotten I'd sent it!

That particular one is rather funny isn't it :-)
