Here is my awesome dog

He is coming back because I whistled him.
He is coming back, despite the fact that there was a red deer.
He is coming back even though he was in hot pursuit on the heels of the red deer and there were miles of woods ahead.
He did this twice today, having spotted two different deer running.
Each time he came back and said 'I am a good dog!'
I love my dog.

The question of 'clever' always puzzles me.

Sometimes he appears utterly gormless, and he was never any good at any of the doggy sports that I had vaguely thought we might try for fun. But set him a real-world problem like doors to open or a network of gates and fences, and he will solve it at a run...

Maybe he IS clever, just not an organised sports kind of person. I can sympathise with that!
