Slightly weird portrait of a dwarf lady (with beard).

I attempted to make this face look female despite the beard.  I'm not sure I succeeded.  Also the head is a little too big, and how that can be the case when I used a reference and the proportions measure the same, I do not know, and yet so it is.  Also the camera has picked out edges on the shadows and shapes that I can't see with my eyes, and who knows why THAT is???

When I cover up her mouth and the beard she does look like a lady to me. With nothing covered up she looks more like a friendly chap in drag to me and I don't think it is only because of the beard, I think it is also her mouth (and possibly the chin and the jaw under that beard), her mouth looks a tad more masculine than the rest of her face to me.

Good point! I used a photo of Rose Geil, who is remarkably blessed in the beard department, as a reference, and I wonder if because I am not very used to painting beards, I made her mouth too wide and her chin too deep? I may try repainting it a bit and see if I can correct that.

I'll have to take it back I think, I looked at Rose Geil's picture and I get the same thing with her actual photo.
