The Pink Elephant of Hatherleigh has been stolen!

I am torn between 'honestly, that really sucks, how mean', guilty amusement and overwhelming bafflement at how someone steals a life-size pink elephant, and what on earth they plan to do with it.

I would buy it from the thieves and give it a new home here in a heartbeat.

I think I'm more baffled that someone thought that what the mentally ill needed was to look out of the window and see a pink elephant...

Um, yes, Definitely guilty amusement. That's the most amusing news item I've seen in a long time.

I hope it's just a prank, and that the elephant will send a few postcards and make its way home.

I think the strangest thing is that the pink elephant and the pink hay bales seem to be on different properties and are unrelated. Did the elephant inspire the bales, I wonder, or did the bales inspire the elephant? Had the thieves not intervened, what other giant pink creatures might have turned up nearby?
