I find it odd that Corel Paint Shop Pro X has a 'gif optimiser' option, which one would assume was designed to produce smaller filesizes than the simple 'save as .gif' option.  But it doesn't.  I just saved a file directly via 'save as .gif' and it's literally half the filesize of the 'Optimised' version, even with colour reduction and using various different methods for that.

I assume that someone built a better gif optimiser into PSP, but forgot to take the manual 'Optimiser' which has been around I think since version 5, out.

I keep forgetting about this and rediscovering it, so I note it here (on what could be called the 'Bagpuss principle') in the hope that it may be useful to someone else who happens to be wandering by.

I bet it's got something to do with Coral! acquiring PSP from Jasc; Coral!'s equivilent product was never as good, in my opinion, as Paint Shop Pro. PSP is not as good at PhotoShop, but then it costs a lot, lot less.

You may be right, though wasn't X released very shortly after the takeover? so it could be a bit of messy tidying up that wasn't done. Never used the Corel equivalent.

I've never used Photoshop enough to really get my head round, whereas I've taught courses in using PSP, so personally I find can get better results from it than I can from photoshop because I know how it thinks.

Keep thinking I should spend the extra time and money learning Photoshop properly as it is supposed to be so much better - but there are so many other systems and programs to buy, learn and relearn!

PSP X does at least work with the new nVidia drivers, so it is at last installed on Wyrm now. (It doesn't work with the nVidia XP 64 drivers, so it still isn't installed on Scatha.
