Yes, the boiler has died again! As usual, I am glad we have a gas fire and an electrically heated shower. I have sent an email to Artifice Plumbing, the nom de guerre of our current Boiler Man, and live in hope.

It's actually surprisingly warm for March, with primroses and daffodils everywhere, gardens full of flowering magnolias and camellias, the hedges full of flowering blackthorn and even the odd bluebell showing. Probably a good thing, considering the whole boiler thing.

We have daffodil sprouts. And snow.

I'll just join the commenter above me in the 'flower envy' corner... All we have so far are crocuses.

I wonder what are the chances of a Romanian or Moldovan plumber in Cornwall these days?

Honestly, the only reason that I know where Moldova is, is reading your LJ. I'm pretty sure I've never met anyone from there!

If I remember rightly, the bloke that did our shower room was Romanian... I remember a chap I met while walking Rosie last year asked to stroke her, and said that dogs in Britain seemed very different to dogs in Romania. Mind you, Rosie's pretty different to most dogs...

I suspect small rural communities are probably less attractive to people who come to the UK to work than the cities in general though.

The only reason we got to know where Moldova is was my one second decision to take an unplanned turn in the end of our road trip through Romania to take a quick peek at Moldova. That turn changed our live more than we could have ever imagined.

Your boiler will have been expecting a repeat of last year's weather. How disappointed it must be!

I hope you soon have heating again. How are the disparate cats coping with only one heat source in the house?

Several years ago our furnace decided that it was going to stop working over the Christmas holidays, while we had out-of-town friends staying with us. Spouse was off visiting his family in New Jersey (he does this every year), and the friends were staying with us because her sister who lives in town had just had a baby and was not up for guests.

I set up electric heaters which kept the house at what for ME was a little chilly (but I also have an electric blanket) but for them, who live in Durham (yes, the one up north, she's a professor at the University), it was Just Right.

It was, however, not the first time I have wished that we had a pellet stove in the basement.
