A Thoroughly Unpleasant Person

The Tavistock Group of Artists is having an 'American theme' this year for their summer exhibition, in honour of the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower. This strikes me as  excellent potential for a crossover with that American Diner on the A38 with the cactuses on each table that is plastered with pictures of James Dean and Coca Cola logos, but does not actually sell Coca Cola. I anticipate it being Extremely English and possibly somewhat Problematic.

Anyway, I was trying to think what to paint and started browsing Wikipedia for something Historical and encountered this horrible man, who packed off four small children onto the Mayflower as indentured servants because they were his wife's and her lovers, not his.  No wonder the poor woman wanted anyone else. What a bastard.

In other news:
I painted some nude elves.  I consider nudity to be simply what everyone is wearing underneath, and there is nothing particularly sexual or adult to acknowleging that under clothes lies skin. But I know there are other opinions on this matter, so I put them on my website, here.

I have not been able to read my LJ friendslist for a couple of weeks, I just kept seeing a spinning loading screen icon in Chrome. Have finally got around to trying it in Firefox. It might be just me, surely even now, LJ would notice an issue as large as 'friends lists don't work in most popular available browser'.

I really hope that the potential for hilarity of the American Theme follows through. Still haven't decided what to paint for it myself.

Your nude Elves are gorgeous. (My views on the Discord weren't because I consider nudes inherently adult, and were more based on the potential reaction of colleagues if I was seen with one open on my phone screen at work.)

I'm glad you like them!
My own feeling is that if there's more suggestive stuff on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, then it seems odd for painted nudes to be considered inappropriate in the 21st century, but then I worked in the internet industry, which makes it (or made, in those days) hard to avoid a certain amount of work-related porn. Pp who worked in your industry called the paintings pornographic! So I can see why you would be cautious.

Such lovely nude Elves! I think I've figured out who most of them are (Fingon, Finrod, Maedhros, Fingolfin, Aredhel, Galadriel, and IDK I Can't Figure That One Out) and they look so wonderful. I especially love your Finrod, he looks so happy and lively.

Close! In fact I intended them as:
Fingon (in a big blue chair)

Glorfindel (golden flowers around neck, easy to confuse with Nauglamir, I now realise, I should have put them on his head!)

Maedhros (long red hair, artificial hand)

Fingolfin (could be Gil-galad, admittedly. Fingolfin’s distinguishing feature is Rochallor, and he didn’t fit!)

Lalwen with a knife, though without clothes, could just as well be Aredhel.

Galadriel in a tree, in Doriath probably.

Idril, in the last few years beside the Sea before she set sail. (the hardest one, nobody has guessed her yet!)
