Drop-on wormers for cats
Jun. 15th, 2007 01:03 pmExcellent idea, in theory. Gets round that whole 'A Cat is Basically a Tube' experience, which is never fun for anyone.
However, the instructions to prevent cat grooming self/other cat until the ungodly preparation is dry are easier read than obeyed, and I definitely didn't apply it far enough up Sumatra's neck: I think I got it just behind the shoulderblades rather than above them...
He has now been sick twice, and I'm rather hoping that an emergency vet trip will not be required.

Date: 2007-06-15 12:59 pm (UTC)When we had to dust my guinea-pigs for mites the powder we used said the same thing. It was just impossible to stop them licking at it unless you held them in a vice-like grip - impossible to maintain for the 1/2 hour it needed to work on a wriggling, squeaking piggy.

Date: 2007-06-15 01:05 pm (UTC)I was so glad when I discovered those- getting a pill down Magnus is a real battle. He's only a little better with liquids and pastes- quite a few times this last month I got more on his fur than down his neck. I really hope that his Chlamydia is clear for good when I take him to be retested. All three cats, medicine every day for a month. Not fun.
The other half was really worried that he'd have to do it while I was in hospital. I suspect that if they hadn't let me out on the Friday that it would have involved a call to catlady and a towel. Several towels.
He did say that he suspected that he'd have ended up calling my mother to look after the children whilst we were in hosptail- me with pleurisy, him getting skin grafts. Other half's nickname for Magnus is Greebo.
I suspect that the big problem would have been catching him in the first place as even for a wegie, he's very fast.
