I was just looking to see how the Deed Not Breed petition against extending breed specific legislation was doing, when I noticed this. It's all the petitions that have been rejected, and why:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/list/rejected?sort=signers

There are some nutters out there. I particularly liked the petition to "tar and feather every traitor that has handed our country over to the EU on a plate."

(rejected because "It contained language which is offensive, intemperate, or provocative")

and "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to dance naked in the moonlight on midsummers day next"

(Because, apparently, "It was outside the remit or powers of the Prime Minister and Government". Is this really true? Does moonlight dissolve politicians or something? )

And "Congratulate himself for taking the tough choices government forces upon people and toppling one of the worst regiems in the world, namely Iraq and supporting the silent marjority in so doing."

(rejected as 'It contained wording that is impossible to understand' )

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to dance naked in the moonlight on midsummers day next"

What a horrible sight that would have been! :-p

I find it interesting that a petition to request that leicestershire social services should be made to conduct enquiries into the behaviour of two parent who left three children under the age of four on their own in a ground floor unlocked hotel room as inflammatory.

Some of them have 2 fields, a headline and a description. I noticed that descriptions on some of them aren't displayed, so I'm guessing there might have been stronger language in the description of that one ?

Oh no, it does have a description. Dunno then.

Given the story in the news today, perhaps the Government website is scared of being sued for libel!

They left the door unlocked?? *headdesk* I hadn't realised that. Good God. They so should be investigated.

Yup. I have a nasty feeling that if they were Wayne and Waynetta Slob on holiday in Torremolinos and had been swilling lager at the local British Pub, rather Dr and Mrs at the Tapas Bar, the reaction would have been rather different.

Oh and don't forget that she was the eldest child. The twins were even younger.

Even if they had locked the door, it would still have been dangerous. What if one of them had had an accident or there had been a fire? With an unlocked door they could have wandered off- and there are a lot of hazards in a holiday resort like that- swimming pools for a start.

Is it also true that there was a creche at the restaurant and they chose not to use it? Still, this explains why they are chasing around the world chasing publicity. I had wondered there was anything more sinister to it (nasty-minded person that I am), but that level of guilt makes a lot of sense. I have also wondered how they balance their PR campaign with looking after the twins.... growing up is going to be very difficult now for those two kids :(

I've avoided a lot of the media stories, to be honest, so I don't know if there was a creche. I can understand wanting to leave the children in bed, but then they could have just sat outside the apartment for drinks, instead of going to the pub. Personally I don't believe the checked every 10 minutes thing- but even then, that is not sufficient. You need someone within shouting distance.

My own suspicion is that someone simply walked in and picked her up without waking her. Had anyone done something to her there, they would have risked a lot of noise, so I think she was simply carried away fast asleep. I don't like to think about what happened to her after that.

The desperation to get her back- yes I can sympathise, guilt or not. I'd be just as frantic as they are if it were one of mine.

I agree with you about the younger two children.

I could understand the guilt and the publicity campaign up until the point where they went over to America to meet some high-up US policician chappie. And at that point I just *completely* stopped understanding what was driving their actions. Two Europeans have their child snatched in Europe, for all anyone can tell by another European, and they went to American to - what? tell the Americans to look after their children better? But, yeah, if they left the door unlocked, maybe they are being driven by crazy guilt and not publicity whoring. I still worry about the effect of it on the twins, though.
