Are you listed with the Telephone Preference Service? Once you register - it takes about 28 days after you notify them of your wish to be included - then I believe it becomes illegal for anyone to cold call you.
We are for our home line, but last time I looked you couldn't register a business line with the TPS.
You've just made me go and look at the TPS site, and - it is now possible to register numbers for limited companies - so I have. Hurray! Thanks for the suggestion.
Doesn't seem to work for us, I keep meaning to look up the reporting procedure for TPS so I'm all set to go next time a double-glazing company phones*.
*to do them credit they always apologise and ring off when I say we're with the TPS be even so it is pretty irritating.
I think it reduces the volume (or it did for us when we first went on it when we lived in Cheshire). You're right though, we should report it when people do call, so that the list has teeth.
We went through a phase of being cold-called by British Gas here a couple of years ago - which was funny (no mains gas for miles!)
