Western Power have written to say that our electricity will be off 9am-4pm on Monday, how exciting. Could this be an excuse for a day off?

If you are dependent on electricity for medical reasons, you must inform them of this in writing. No email address is given. Given that it's Tuesday now, I think I'd be a bit worried by the idea of writing them a letter, popping it in the Wednesday morning post, and hoping that it got to them in time to prevent instant death at 9am on Mon...

It would be very tempting to invent such a medical condition, just to see what happens. Do strapping young men from Western Power turn up at 8.59, bearing a portable generator powered by a team of slaves and dogs? Do they send you a very large amount of batteries? I'd love to find out.

I do like the name Western Power. It has such higher aspirations than Southern Electric - not just electricty, but all power in the West is theirs. I bet they wear swirly black cloaks and have minions.

It's much more pleasing than the old name, SWEB, which I always thought sounded like a nautical insult - "All aboard, you SWEBS!"

Also, their logo is a sort of wave pattern. I'm pretty sure wave power isn't advanced enough yet for us to be using it, so presumably this is thinking ahead.
