Clothes annoyance

bunnA few weeks ago I bought 2 pairs of jeans (both the same size) and some random socks. After one wash, one pair of jeans is now large and flappy, and the other pair of jeans is skin tight. How are you supposed to know which will do what???
Also, some of the socks have turned out to be those annoying sorts of socks that are fine until you put on wellies, then they fall down and gather irritatingly about your toes. This is why I never have the nerve to do a Pellinor and buy hundreds of identical socks. With my luck I'd end up with hundreds of welly-droopers.
