May. 7th, 2013 04:38 pmI came across this poem randomly the other day, and liked it. Ironically, though, I could really do with an version that goes something along the lines of 'wander around the Internet if you must'.
Dust if you must.
But wouldn’t it be better,
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed?
Ponder the difference between want and need.

Season of mists and bla bla bla
Sep. 6th, 2012 09:13 pmHow I hated that poem when I was younger. It seemed to push aside the still-perfectly-good summer and be rushing needlessly ahead, without acknowledging that a *proper* autumn wasn't about sun on hazelnuts, but about wild winds and crunchy leaves and frost and bonfires. The poem has grown on me a bit since, but I still think 'close bosom-friend of the maturing sun' is an utterly ludicrous line.

Diamond Jubilee
Jun. 3rd, 2012 11:27 pmSince I'm living in a monarchy, I definitely want to enjoy the spectacle. My abstract view of monarchy as a system is not uncritically approving, but I feel that switching to anything else at this stage would have many downsides. And there's no question that our current incumbent is a tough old bird for an 86 year old.
