Footie cat likes to sleep so close to the fire that I keep moving him, in case he sets fire to his whiskers.  Rosie and Brythen are holding paws.

Meanwhile, Henning cat is lurking darkly in the corner of the room, muttering into his whiskers about how it's all just sickening.

I think I've given up on reviews of the year and resolutions. My year was a curate's egg, and I think I wrote many of the good bits in this journal anyway, and always forget my resolutions, so there's no point making them. (Watch me now forget I resolved that.  In fact, I shall tag this resolutions so that if I make resolutions next year, I can click on the tag and laugh at January-me.

I hope everyone reading this will have a really good 2015!

Unless someone reading this is a serial killer, or something like that.  In which case I hope you are caught quickly and with minimal collateral damage, and find yourself in prison in a country that will offer you suitable confinement and a reasonable degree of rehabilitation. :-D

I've just realised that I forgot my this blog's tenth birthday, which would have been 22nd December.   I'm glad I started it, and I hope it will last another 10 years.

I'm somewhat annoyed to discover that I made a new year's resolution last year to use Facebook less.  I think I did stick to that for a while, but have drifted back to it.  I don't think I get enough out of it for the time I spend idly scrolling through the many many updates and shares from people I mostly only know peripherally, and usually seem less interesting/thoughtprovoking than LJ -  and so I shall resolve this year once again to try to spend more time making things and generally Getting Things Done, and less time on the big F. (I suppose I could set up filters, but I'd really rather just avoid Facebook, which always tends to make me feel like I've eaten too many Pringles).

So far this year in Getting Things Done, I have made three festive graphics for Pp's Shop on the Borderlands.  I meant to make them in time for Christmas, but had too much work, but now they are ready for next year. Read more... )
And now I'm going to make some tea and then see if I can get any further with this story in which Cottia, aged 73, and the great-grandson of the Tribune Placidus solve crimes in the Downs. I've written very little fiction this year, but I do like doing it -- so that would be a good thing to do instead of Facebook!

I suppose I really have to have a facebook account - people expect it in my line of business, and it's kind of useful for volunteering, and yes, OK it's nice to see the occasional update or share a little with those random souls that I don't have any other contact details for, but none the less have a vague feeing of warmth towards. And it's sometimes interesting to see updates from organisations and businesses whose work interests me.

But a social medium which has such enormous breadth of membership, where the lines are so blurred between the professional, the commercial, and the personal is ... awkward. Uncomfortable. Having had a good think about it, I've concluded that it's just not a space where I feel very safe expressing myself. Every time I post something that isn't a generic message 'happy new year!' or a dog photo, I end up regretting it.

NY Resolution : Less Facebook.

In other news, Amber likes standing up on her back legs and offering her paws. I am hoping to train her to do so when I say 'Rory Calhoun'. :-D

Resolutions

I don't think I made any resolutions last year.

Resolutions for 2008
have mostly been achieved.   I did lose a stone in weight (we will pass over the 4 pounds I have regained over Christmas...)  and I did do quite a bit to the garden.   I don't think I have achieved the 'more decisive' but possibly I have drifted to the point where I've at least got stuck on something and aren't drifting that much further.

This year I shall
1) do the weight thing again, though rather aware that it took 2 years to shift the last one!

2) learn how to draw human heads and bodies properly.    I tend to just randomly draw stuff that interests me and have no training, so it is probably not surprising that I am not good at faces.  I have bought a couple of books, and am working through the one on the human head now.

I can't decide whether to make a third resolution to try to make more money.  I can think of several ways to do it, but it might make me less happy and relaxed - though admittedly, being less poor would be cheering and relaxing in its own right.   Hum.  will reflect on this matter.
