I bought a new screen for my knackered Kindle on Ebay and replaced it myself. And it all works, and I only had one screw left over!

I FEEL SO ACCOMPLISHED.

And now I don't have to make a decision about buying a replacement for it. But I do need a new 00 screwdriver head because all the tiny tiny screws knackered mine.

I just admired the new, splendidly regular, very neat, gravelled area, studded with terribly neat shrubs, that my neighbours have made in their ongoing work to make their garden as neat as a garden in a book about gardening from the 1950's.  That quote kept floating through my head.

I have retreated to my dandelion-studded, bee-buzzing, honeyscented chaos of a garden and can't help feeling that I like it so much more!

Whether I shall feel the same when all the spring flowers are over and it just becomes a straggly green mess full of unripe apples, is another matter...

Lonicera Nitida, the false box, is a fabulous groundcover plant.  It may not look like much, but it is absolutely covered in tiny pale-green flowers with a huge scent, and buzzing with bees.  The other particularly well scented plants at the moment are the Aquilegias,  though they seem to release their best scent in the evenings.

As is now traditional, I drew hasty pictures as we went along.  This year I went for charcoal.

What will happen next year? Who knows? I'm pretty sure that someone is going to drop the magic obsidian axe on their toe at some point and the whole thing will be documented in somewhat blotchy drawings, and with a number of misplaced apostrophes. Yes, I know it goes in front of the "t". My fingers just don't want to put it there. Mostly.

You know how you get those little short stories that convey a moral? Well, this particular one, the Starfish Story, about how helping one person is always worth it, gets on my tits. Not sure why this one particularly, but it just does. Today I was inspired to rewrite it from the point of view of the starfish.

Actually, my rewrite is also exactly the sort of thing I often don't like because it has an unhappy ending, and I do like a happy ending. If you do too, you probably won't like my version. You have been warned!
