Cookery tip of the day: when reheating soup, put the soup in the pan, then the pan on the hob.

Do NOT put the pan on the hob 'to warm up' while faddling about finding the soup and opening the packet, then get distracted by Az asking for tripe sticks and wander back with the soup some time later .  If you do that, the soup you pour into the pan vaporises instantly, leaving a cloud of carrot-flavoured steam and a thick brown burnt layer inside the saucepan...

You can still eat the remaining soup, you'll be pleased to hear, but I think the saucepan may have had it.

That's now as impressive as bloke wanting some heated baked beans puts unopened can into saucepan and heats, then wonders why it all went horribly wrong. Unfortunately, I can't remember the details of "horribly wrong", but I think it involved ruined saucepan and exploded tin, but his room-mate might have got to it before the latter.

I (ie friends at University) can beat that. Unopened can directly onto ring. And, unopened can into oven.

I've done that kind of thing too, it wasn't with soup though, I think it was just with water. Soaking the pan in a concentrated solution of biological washing liquid will help get rid of the burnt layer.

Yes :-D Marvel at my culinary ineptitude! :-D

If you live in a hard water area it's amazing the amount of mineral deposit you get left with and the colour it can go in a very hot pan...

... I think we have some bio washing liquid somewhere for Special Occasions, good idea.

Having grown up with a septic tank I can't quite get out of the habit of treating bio liquid like a dangerous poison which may not be washed or flushed...
