I just posted a photo simultaneously on three forums and raced the responses.

The results of this experiment
1) Sighthoundsonline.org.uk - first by a mile, I got three comments in 15 minutes,
2) Dogpages (temporary secret forum address while the admin has a strop) - honorable second place even though I did post my pic into a thread of other pics
3) Animal-rescuers.com - still no comments after 20 mins! Outrage.

The test image:

The content may have affected the result of the experiment. SOL people always like to comment on pics of greyhounds & cats.

Todays pointless experiment is now concluded.

Responses? Why are you timing responses?

(8 minutes by my PC's clock, BTW)

There is no good reason. The goblins told me to do it.

Actually that isn't quite true. Forums that are busier are more successful and attract new posters more effectively. Forums that attract new posters and keep older posters coming back are more useful tools for promotion and fundraising. One measure of busy-ness is speed of responses. (I typed business then, which I think is actually the right spelling, but reads wrongly somehow.)

I am always interested in response speeds on different forums for this reason, though of course really you need to monitor it across a number of different topics to get a proper picture.

(This is what I would have said if I'd had to justify it anyway...)

Very cute! Is that Kjetil or Henning?

It is Henning, though I agree it's kind of hard to tell!

I thought it looked like there was quite a mane there, but I usually think of Kjetil as the one most likely to adopt a cute pose :-) so I couldn't decide.

I can't wait to get cats!!!

How is the house stuff coming along? Just wait till you have it all done. (Then your new cats will come and vomit on it ;-))

Still loads to do, the electricians haven't finished yet and there's plaster dust everywhere form all the holes they've knocked in the walls.

Cat sick, mmm lovely! We don't plan to have any carpets downstairs, due to Bacchus sprinkling wine everywhere when he pours, so it should all be wipe clean in the places where they're likely to be. He's intending to keep the upstairs bedrooms cat-free by keeping the doors closed, but I don't think that's likely to work very well since he's very forgetful. But hopefully if any of them feel queasy they'll be nice and throw up downstairs :-)

Let me see if I've remembered my mnemonic: Henning is Hairier, but Kjetil is Kjuter. Is that right? Though I can only ever tell when I see them side by side. I think they need to wear name badges. Or shirts with their names on, like the footballers they're named after.

I think that mnemonic is horribly meeeeen to poor Henning, who is also *terribly* cute.

If there is one thing they don't need it is shirts. They are woolly enough as it is!

I'm sure Henning is cute. Kjetil is kjute - an obscure Old Norse word that roughly translates as "soft, soppy and totally lacking in the dignity that a Viking (for Viking read "cat" in this instance) ought to possess."

Ok, I think I can sell that story to His Majesty the Mighty Henning.
