I have once again spent part of a day titivating bad photos that were taken out of focus, in bad weather, against ugly backdrops.

Why, WHY can't people a) buy a decent camera b) learn to take decent photos with it and c) wait till the sun is out and find somewhere that isn't covered in corrugated iron as a backdrop.

Or failing that d) hire someone to take photos for them?

Surely any of these would be preferable to getting me to fiddle with their bad photos afterwards. I can get them looking vaguely half-way decent, with some effort - but would it not be simpler (and cheaper) and much more effective to just supply decent photos to start with???

ARG!

I've often wondered about point c. I've often stood patiently in a tourist spot, waiting for a tiny cloud to move over the sun, and watched in amazement as people snap away beside me, despite the fact that the sun is obviously going to return in 15 seconds and turn the dull building into something sparkling and lovely. I've also marvelled at ugly backdrops, when people are taking pictures of something so portable as a person, who can be directed into a good spot. (Pellinor knows his place. He knows he's just useful, portable foreground, and is as such is very biddable.)

I can kind of understand with tourist snaps - specially if you have a big memory card, why not just snap randomly then choose later?

But this is for a website where they hope people will want to buy advertising for their businesses on taxi cabs. Taxi cabs are the essence of portable, so why they can't drive them to somewhere in front of a clean wall of a neutral colour, I don't know.
