I had a need to make a wedding congratulations card, and since I didn't feel like painting something with boring rings or flowers, I did this.  I'm quite pleased with the colours. It's mostly burnt sienna, Azo yellow medium and ultramarine blue - the grey of the trunks is a mixture of burnt sienna and ultramarine, with a bit of titanium white, and the lady's hair is the same mix, just a little heavier on the burnt sienna,  I used a tiny bit of yellow ochre for the person on the far side's hair and trousers.   The outlining is ultramarine blue too.

Why all the detail?  Well, I came across the xkcd colour survey and was alarmed by:

The color names most disproportionately popular among women:

  1. Dusty Teal
  2. Blush Pink
  3. Dusty Lavender
  4. Butter Yellow
  5. Dusky Rose

The color names most disproportionately popular among men:

  1. Penis
  2. Gay
  3. WTF
  4. Dunno
  5. Baige
:-DDD

I think basically that's how men express frustration after identifying a zillion questions about colors. The whole analysis was kind of fascinating.

Also men can't spell "beige," I guess.

That's a lovely design for a card.

the grey of the trunks is a mixture of burnt sienna and ultramarine...

I find it rather delightful that you were able to get a tree trunk color out of those two quite different hues.

OMG that color thing. I love some of the miscellaneous responses near the end. 'White if it had a wine spill on itself and let it dry for a few days and then tried to wash it but...'

Burnt sienna and ultramarine mixed with white is a shade I use all the time - you can make it dark enough to register as black: if you add a little more sienna, it makes a nice misty-heather-hills pinkness, and with a little more ultramarine it makes a stormy sky.

It's called Payne's grey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payne%27s_grey

It seems like that mix should come out brown, but paint is mysterious stuff!

Lovely! Very Tolkienian (probably because the lady in the blue dress makes me think of Luthien, though it also has a feel of Lothlorien in its fading but still beautiful autumnal years), and also reminiscent of Pauline Baynes - I think I'm particularly reminded of a scene where Lucy is walking among the trees trying to wake them up or something similar.
